I’m sitting in a classroom
But my mind lingers elsewhere,
The teacher’s droning on and on
Even though most of us don’t care.
I’m thinking of my past life
Of the joyful times I’d spent
Before I’d discovered the ancient truth
Of what happiness really meant.
Now I know of ‘break-downs’
Times when you’ve got to cry
I also know the depth of things
Of friendship when it’s dry
Even though I wish and pray
I know things won’t be the same
So my attention turns back to class
Just as Miss Williams calls my name.
