“Glenart Castle!” crowded with wounded
Rocking in the cradle f the sea…
Men who had witnessed the door of hell open,
Their faces etched with agony.
Bearing scars of war, riddled with diseases,
Gangrene, typhoid, malaria
Awashed with stench of decaying bodies
Death looms…
Mates farewelled,
Time and again.
Sympathy that does not soothe.
The once strong men lay as a twisted wreck
Farewelled forever.
Eyes stare into space…
My life for my country?
