Does It Really Matter?

3rd in the 'Watch Out! 2000' competition
I hear the poor thing weeping,
Whimpering with pain.
He’s lonely where we keep him
It’s driving him insane.
He can not climb the garden wall
Or open up the gate.
If he tries he’ll surely fall
And bleed upon the slate.
His memories are fading
And all his dreams are shattered.
It is death he keeps evading,
But does it really matter?
