2000
3rd in the 'Watch Out! 2000' competition
Peaceful and quiet, yet extraordinarily loud,
Their huge size and height reach straight for the clouds,
These two mighty hills tower over the town,
The houses below skink in their shadows and drown.
In the early mornings, when the sun just appears,
Down the hills flow rays of light-filled tears,
Then when the storms come with thunder and rain,
The hills become violent screaming in pain.
But the clouds finally part and a rainbow is found,
Splashed on the hills that share this fine crown,
The sun tips its hat and spreads light another mile,
Now the hills sleep gently with a satisfied smile.
