2nd in the 'Believe It Or Not 2001' competition
I embark on sacred soil,
As I venture through the rain.
The trees tell a story,
Of happiness and pain.
The birds’ beating bolero,
Plays tricks in my brain.
The story that the forest tells,
Through its roots and veins.
The water from the fall pounds helplessly on rocks,
The unseen creatures silently remain.
I walk on the soil below me unthinking,
The footprints of the ancestors it contains.
The sky above changes from night to day,
Looking into this unique forest terrain.
I know I walk on something different,
This is forever Australian.
