On The Way To School

Sweeping up my schoolbag
With deep almighty sigh
I set my eyes on the road ahead
It's time to say goodbye

Dawdling past the bakery
With delicacies fine and sweet
Skipping through the meadows green
And the swaying crops of wheat

Kicking along the gravelly road
Shoulders sore and sagging
Running up to greet my friends
Waving those that are lagging

School bell heralds the new school day
The walk to school has ended
English, Maths, Geography, SOSE,
And the skirt that needs to be mended
