It was a cold grey day when we set sail
We were excited, yet frightened that we'd all fail
We want to see the world, was the reason of some
Oh how we were wrong, what had we all done
We stepped on that rough Gallipoli sand
To hear the rattle of bullets the moment we'd land
Many fell in no time at all
But no, we'd go on, we'd answer our call
Morning was here, still black as night
Blood stained the field where we would all fight
I was armed and ready, perched on the bench
Retreat! Was all I heard as I jumped from the trench
I ran to the boats thinking finally it's over
Till the bullet hit me hard, why did I blow my cover?
As I lay gunned down on that dreadful shore
Had I seen the world much clearer than before?
