Finalist in the 'Empowered 2008' competition
Despondency
Dipped in unsavoury bitterness
Encased in a layer of despair
Fighting for just one last breath
Why must I hold on?
Callous misery overhanging every thought,
Clouding over narrowed vision
Severe dejection diminishing any shred of hope
Engraving anguish into every inch of my being
I can’t hold on anymore…
Incredulity
The unrelenting taint of hopelessness erased
A hand extended into the dark depths in which I lay
Lifting me with careful, unyielding guidance
'You must hold on.'
