Amazing Grace - A Poem Inspired By The Global Environmental Movement

Finalist in the 'Empowered 2008' competition

With the voice of a nightingale she sings,
So beautiful to behold – an angel without wings,
A beaming face – no crease or frown,
Her hair is green, her eyes are brown.
She skips and dances – never sitting still,
Through glen and forest, over field and hill,
Her name is Grace, her name a dream,
Her eyes are brown, her hair is green.
Amazing Grace! They will say,
Fairest of fair; gayest of gay,
Grace – Daughter of the Creator – in your diamond gown,
Your hair is green, your eyes are brown.
Grace no longer skips, instead will weep,
Her scars are many, her wounds are deep,
For we are all too cruel to Grace, to cruel and mean,
Her eyes are grey, her hair was green.
