1st in the 'World of Words 2009' competition
A white rose in full bloom,
Reaching for the blood soaked moon.
Thorns caressed by crimson drops,
A continuous bleed that no one stops.
A war, a fight, it's all the same,
We still kill, and rape, and even maim.
A child's eyes are made blind,
A mothers kiss made unkind,
The deafening roar of guns and death,
Doesn't seem to take away our breath,
So even though the innocent die,
And we soil our children with cruel lies.
We live our lives as a normal day,
Ignoring everything in a subtle way.
And those white blood roses we forget,
Can turn into our darkest regret.
