Imagine A World

I raced out through the wooden doors of school, excited to get home. It was Friday. That meant no more school for two whole days! My friends hurriedly waved goodbye to one another and sped off to get home. My feet kept going, one after the other. Home was a long way from school. It started to get dark soon and I got tired pretty soon. My heart was beating really fast and sweat dropped down my face. I looked like an athlete who’d just ran 9 kilometres except I had barely ran 3 km. If I kept going at this rate I would miss dinner and movie night. I immediately decided to take a short cut. This short cut wasn’t exactly pleasant to walk through. Twisting thorny vines were in every corner, big bushy trees blocked all light from passing through. The worst thing of all were the creepy noises coming from everywhere in the woods. I told myself it was all just a story and turned into the woods, though deep inside I knew it wasn’t.

I trod through the crunchy leaves as the wind howled like a hungry wolf. Anything could happen here. I could scream to the top of my lungs and nobody would hear me. A big black bird swooped down on me and tried to steal my bag but I pulled it away just in time. I heard a low cracking noise from behind me. I picked up speed and tried to lose whatever was behind me. I took a few more turns and was nearly out. I turned around as slowly as I could and to my surprise a little egg sat there with a few cracks in it. Suddenly it hatched as soon as I touched it. ‘Oh no what have I done?’ I whispered. Then, I got even more shocked. Inside the egg was no mammal, or reptile, or bird, or fish. It was book! My feet collapsed under me. I could hear my heart pounding as I opened the book.

The world around me flushed into the ground like a toilet. I felt queasy in my stomach as the trees were sucked away and the picture in my book became real. I was standing inside the book. That made no sense but it was true. How would I get out? I walked around and looked at the landscape. It looked like a farm, but abandoned. My stomach grumbled ferociously. ‘I wish I had something yummy to eat’ I thought. A decent sized plate of mac and cheese along with a cup of herb tea was placed on a picnic blanket right before my eyes. I ate right away trying to figure out what magic this was. It tasted delicious and had nothing fishy about it. If this worked, I wanted to try some other things too. I wished for lots of things from riding elephants to dining in a fancy hotel. I knew how to get out.

“I wish for a sturdy wooden door with a lock that will get me outside of this book.” I said. That exact thing popped up in front of me. “I also wish for a key to that door”I asked. The next moment I was holding a key precisely to fit that lock. Just before I left, I wished for some more of those delicious plates of mac and cheese and left out to my real world. The book would stay with me in case I ever got bored and wanted to have an adventure. The book was called ‘Imagine a world....’.
