Stars
They looked up and saw a million stars.
Not in the sky, but in the crowd.
They saw the musicians, the authors, the doctors and lawyers,
But they heard a silence, deafening and loud.
No-one spoke up, no-one stirred or shouted;
No noise, but the authorities taking silent 'no's as 'yes's.
They listened to the hearts of those who could not speak,
Those who were homeless, hopeless and weak - yet unique.
Each had a story, told not for glory,
But to ask for help.
When they were small they looked up and saw a million stars.
Now they are tall and are among the stars.
