Under Siege

Ashes fall like rain,
About my face,
About my body

Where to look?
Where to run?

The flames rise high,
Above the setting sun,
Fear, desolation,
All alone,
No motivation,
How can I go on?

Where to look?
Where to run?

A war within myself…
A pain like shattered glass,
Piercing my skin,
Tears blurring my eyes

My kin,
My people,
Where are you now?
Lost in a burning city,
Desperation, no will to go on,
Behind me,
My shadow weighs a tonne.

Rising flames…

Where to look?
Where to run?

It is coming for me!
The end is near!
Swirling panic,
Swirling fear!
You take my hand,
Say “come with me”
But where to go?
Can’t you see?

This place, my mind,
It’s under siege.
I’ve locked you in,
Thrown away the key,
We are here,
Destined to burn,
In this place, my mind!
Any regrets?
Some final words,
Before we both unwind?
Flames creep closer,
It’s almost over…

Where to look?
Into your eyes,
To take my final comforts,
Before I am burned,
And take you with me…

Your eyes, they pierce me,
Deep, to my soul,
Right now,
I can almost see,
The fire,
The ashes,
I am losing my mind…

If I take your strength and your courage,
Maybe we can leave this fire behind…

Please take my hand!
Please hold me tight!
Let me cry the night away!
“Your tears will douse the flames,” you say,

You sit like the calmest angel,
Sent to earth just for me,
I can’t see your eyes anymore,
They are blurred by my tears,

A sudden chill, the flames are gone!
This city has been saved!
I look around,
And I am sorry, for the way the fire behaved,

I couldn’t stop it!
I promise you!
Please forgive me now!
For all your courage,
All your strength,
Has saved this once ugly town!

I can see it as clear as day,
Where I would have lay burning,

Where to look?
To the future, to life,
Where to run?
To your arms, out of strife.

I can see it now,
I am me,
And all because of you –
I remain here now,
Untouched by the burning flames,
Yet still, I don’t know how!
You must truly care…
You have saved this burning city,
You have saved my mind,
My heart and soul…
My sanity…
