A Change Of Heart

2011
The sun shines through my open window,
The calendar says it's Valentine's Day,
Great.
Every year it's the same,
Not one single card in the mailbox.
I almost decide to not go and check, but I do anyway,
Nothing.
I turn slowly, my heart heavy in my chest.
Then I see it,
One single rose,
Sitting on the doorstep.
I look around, then slowly walk up to it,
I pick it up tenderley,
And read the name scrawled on the tag tied to the stem,
I smile and cradle the rose lovingly to my chest,
It's funny how something as simple as a rose can change someone's perspective entirely.
