Finalist in the 'Xtreme Read 2009' competition
The mist rolled in throughout the night,
Shrouding the land in a veil of white,
An impenetrable barrier of relentless might,
Blocks out the struggling, pre-dawn light.
Shadows reign upon the ground,
The hills;dark, shifting, haunting mounds,
Through paddocks full of slumbering sheep,
The chilling fingers of frost does creep.
The farmer's lambs out in the fold;
Shivering in the deathly cold,
But inside in my bed I sleep,
Where foggy cold dare not seep.
