A Dreaded Fire

The night was silent
My eyes were closed
I heard a pitch beep and awoke with a start
I smelt smoke
I saw a read flash and ran out the room
Smoke was all around me
A fire was lighting the smoky air
I tried to scream but a hand had grabbed me
I was dragged to the door
My head began to spin and I couldn’t breath
I closed my eyes
When I awoke I was in the hospital alive but only just
I can now live another day
I was very lucky
