Who's for the trench?
Are you, my mate?
Who'll stand the stench?
Will you, my mate?

Who's fretting to begin?
Who's going out to win?
Who wants to save his skin?
Do you, my mate?

Who will kick in the boot?
Who wants to charge and shoot?
Who will take the quickest route?
Will you, my mate?

Who's keen on getting fit?
Who wants to show his grit?
And who’d rather wait a bit?
Would you, my mate?

Who'll earn the British thanks?
And show their loyalty with the tanks?
Who will have the highest rank?
Will you, my mate?

When that ceremony comes,
Banners and the rolling drums,
Who'll stand and bite their thumbs?
Will you, my mate
