3rd in the 'Calling All Poets 2007' competition
They came down ‘til her smile ceases
She’s falling down hard on the floor
She picks up all her torn out pieces
She’s mending her outspoken core.
Defeated came the spell of sleep
Worn out by her need of comfort
She’s going under much too deep
Only because she has suffered.
Feeble attempts at normal living
A desire they can’t let her obtain
They persist in taking, she persists in giving
Until forced alone with abandoned shame.
That salty taste their rage inspires
She abuses herself for her frustration
A blade of relief she quite admires
When she’d rather be without sensation.
