2nd in the 'Write Here Write Now 2017' competition
Every note, every chord, strums a rhythm through my body,
A harmony of passion, heart break and joy.
I am hypnotised, a chiselled statue of pure fixation,
My emotions melt through my jagged fingers and onto the floor.
Light, in the distance there is a girl, she is dancing,
Her body is the canvas, sound is the brush.
I am drawn deeper and deeper into the warmth that surrounds her,
My breath is static and I don't know where I am anymore.
Words float around in the deep depths of my vision,
They're electric, they brand on the tip of my tongue.
My thoughts are opened like a book with no binding,
They fall and scatter, held hostage no more.
The beat softens and the dancer evaporates in the dimming light,
I feel a sharp yank in my chest as the final beat rings.
Every note, every chord, that strummed a rhythm through my body,
Echoes in the silent air, in the tears that dance down my cheeks.
