Deft fingers soft on hard, false ivory
The room is foreign, though filled with familiar sound.
His hands slow danced up and down the keys
in time, watched by distant eyes and a heart
more distant still.
The music is of childhood,
one unlike my own.
Sweet. Gentle. Pure.
It begat images of little feet, pattering through halls,
Sunday brunch and week night suppers,
pulled from memories which I knew nothing.
Of a peace I though existed in storybooks
and nowhere else.
The notes whisper of God and gardens
to a soul. Calcified.
And growing more granitic, year by passing year.
