He ambled to the animal pen
where the lambs were born
too early.
The odour of dead carcass
wafts in the humid air.
Melancholy will linger
for eternity.
Egg shells are scattered,
the raw eggs splatted.
The chickens scamper frantically
in the coop.
Feathers blanket the rotting
wooden floor.
The disease was spreading.
The farmer’s nightmare became reality.
