Finalist in the 'National Treasures 2022' competition
Dirty heart stained, dipped in ink.
Submerged,
Coated in thick black. Dripping, it’s dragged
Across the board, dry and wordless—
Scratching and streaking,
Past marks assaulting the plain.
Distinguishingly camouflaged amongst the
Black nothingness of the
White board’s neglect. Hardly erasable
It seeps, ink etching its way into permanence.
Unobscured, unwiped yet
Unread. The white board darkens
While
Students memorise lineless sheets.
Discarded on the floor, a drowned pen eyes its labour;
A forgotten memoir.
