1st in the 'Believe It Or Not 2001' competition
An outline in the dark, a silhouette in the moon’s milky hue,
An owl flying home, flying home to the nest.
Silent wings beat silent rhythm,
Whisper, whisper, woo.
The eucalyptus tree whispers of the night owl’s flight,
How it dived and soared, a lone shadow in the fire flies light.
Silent wings beat silent rhythm,
Whisper, whisper, woo.
A bushman remembers the night owl’s call,
The rise and fall of one long note, an owl’s own way of yodelling.
Silent wings beat silent rhythm,
Whisper, whisper, woo.
Safe in the nest the night owl rests,
Until night arrives and he can dance and fly and soar to the moon once more.
Silent wings beat silent rhythm,
Whisper, whisper, woo.
