It’s definitely been 55 years or more
I’ve searched this country from mountain to shore
From Tarong to Tuchekoi, Scarborough to Silver Creek
From Moor to Manley from peak to fen
I played in cars, pubs and an ugly bar
I’ve stood in the sea with my scratchy guitar
I’d definitely be richer than all the rest
If I had a dollar for each request
For duelling bob’s American pie
It sure is enough to make you cry
Rule Britannia and swing low
They‘re the only songs the English know.
Finally when the cake’s been cut
The ball is finished and the pub is shut
The weddings over as is the wake
I’m only going to sing at dawn’s break
