The mothers dreaded the priest,
A father burdened the load,
Sisters wiped the tears,
While the brothers hit the road.
The Papa’s made you laugh,
The Mama’s let you cry.
Aunts worked as nurses,
And friends sat close by.
Teachers taught us marching,
Britain showed us the way.
I sat at home and waited for you,
Every single day.
