Jealous

There were quite a few groups of students hanging out at the school gate on the Tuesday morning after the sports carnival. There were the preppy teens, the scene, Goth and Emo kids, the ‘tough’ guys, and last but not least – my group.

My group was quite small. In fact, it was just me and my friend, Nicky. This morning, though, everyone was crowded around us. Nicky was in tears. Her mobile had been stolen. ‘That damn teacher took it, she saw me texting in class and now she’s taken it off of me.’
‘How do you know it was her?’ I asked, comforting her. ‘I just do. She’s had it in for me ever since I embarrassed her in year 8 English.’ She sniffled. ‘Now I can’t text Brad!’

Everyone was laughing at her and murmuring smart comments under their breath. To be completely honest, I was jealous of Brad. He was her boyfriend and had been for just over 5 months now.

Nicky kept bawling, completely oblivious of everyone around us. I realised I had taken it too far, and I couldn’t bare to see Nicky like this. I reached into my pocket and gave her back her phone.
