A dollar
I am not richad
I am poor
I have a dollar
No less, no more
I was abandoned at just age six
I was left with only chopsticks
I sold my dollar for a plain cardboard box
That is where I live and it doesn’t cost
So I have no friends or family
But I do have a cat, her name is Sandy
We spend our days alone and cold
But we are happy even though our box has mould
I am Chinese but that doesn’t help
But I speak English as you can tell
I live in a city, not far from Beijing
The town that I live in is called Nanjing
They are very much the same
In rhyming and features
They both have Olympic stadiums
With many martial art teachers
Although I’m alone, I am quite smart
I learn everything by a little chart
I know my numbers 1, 2 and 3
And I know my alphabet A, B and C
I am now 15 and I’m starting to work
I can’t wait till my first pay day and what it will be worth
My boss turned to me, wiping sushi of his collar
And said “congratulations, you’ve just earned a dollar”
So I am not rich
I am poor
I have a dollar
No less, and no more
