Tears Of Blue

There was a man I once knew
He was a man like no other
A man who was kind and true
So today I cry tears of blue as I remember the man I once knew
The man I knew would soon run out of breath
Though he was not a man afraid to suffer
Nor was he a man afraid of death
So today I cry tears of blue in memory of that day
I came to see the man I once knew
I could not speak the words I needed to say
His eyes scanned the faces of his family and settled on me
In his final hours he laid in bed hopelessly
He could not move
He could not speak
I could not stay and watch him die
So today I cry tears of blue for the phone call that had to come
That evening I received the news
The man I once knew was a man I had to lose
So cry tears of blue on this black unfaithful day
Knowing my grandfather can not wipe them away
