Misleading Illusions

I am adrift in a lake of vanity
Treading in shallow, poisonous waters
My reflection no longer deceives me
It reveals what I desire
Drowning in superficiality;
The forceful currents bring me satisfaction of my visual appearance
Flattery and compliments carry out the fatal torture
Beauty now the beast, cannot be tamed
The mirror was my sworn enemy; it glared back at me in disgust
Now it stares in admiration, it is my latest companion
Although, now, in my attempts to turn away,
I am captivated by its misleading Illusions
I long to be removed from the lake
For evil now sows and reaps within me
I have grown to worship material things
Sold to vanity, is my soul
