A Friend

The desolate tale of a lonely boy;
He suffered a sorrowful life of despair
Ears turned deaf in his presence, for who was to care?
Everywhere the boy went, he witnessed people
Laughing, joking, smiling.
His miserable worries never ceased piling.
And then one day, he heard a sound,
It seemed like a sob, he turned around.
There, lying in the midst of his eyes,
Was another small boy, looking vaguely surprised.
Each boy was a cure to the other, a prize,
Their new feelings doubling up in size.
And when the new friend was in the boy's sight,
His problems would disappear.
Just like that.
A friend is a blessed thing; A cherished gift.
