The woods whistle with the wind
And the church bell chimes,
Once, twice, now three times
And the silver moon slides behind
A black cotton curtain.
Then an owl calls,
To which? To who?
And the stars sew a silky tragedy
That threads each climbing emotion,
Like a web of light
Can slide into an open window
Through a night of passion.
