The Fall Of Rain

Sheets drawn tight around me, as warm and comforting as a mothers hug
Rain falls steadily outside and the clouds hide the sun from view
I am content in my cocoon, hidden from the harshness of the world
I could lie here all day – I am alone in the house, though I am safe
Rain falls steadily elsewhere, with seemingly little chance of stopping
Houses and lives are washed away, with little chance of it ending
Families and hope are destroyed, with little chance of rebuilding
The heavens have opened and are falling upon the unfortunate land
A slow piano piece plays as the destruction is shown to the rest of the world
A male voice over lists the areas that have been affected by the floods
Women are crying and cars are being washed away in a wall of water
I hold my pillow close and turn the volume down as the rain continues to fall
My land and home has been inflicted upon by a sorrowful hardship
It will take years for it to fade from the forefronts of our minds and hearts
This country will stand as one behind the victims, and we will support them
We will stand as one and defend our brothers against the steady fall of rain
