PATCHY WRITTEN BY: Victoria Basset-Wilton
A bond forged through heartache,
So it was for Patchy and me,
Bright eyes smiled and laughed with me,
Patch on the eye, sweet as can be, chatty and curious she always snuggled into me,
Pregnant with five, I wished I’d taken her with me on my holiday to the sea,
Regret now washes over me,
Woulda! Shoulda! Coulda!
The future would sometimes be good to see,
Tears fall and roll down my face, eyes red raw.
No smile on my face.
The worst is I wasn’t even there,
All I can do now is say a prayer,
It was relayed to me,
My Guinea pig Patchy passed away protecting her babies from the tyrant Raphael.
Season come and seasons go and my fearless Patchy saved but one, forfeiting her life.
Her legacy will live on through her baby left behind.
And so another bond begins, with history repeating itself.
