You Or Me

You weren't invited or wanted,
So how dare you turn up unannounced.
Your beginnings unknown,
Creeping in and laying your deadly foundations.
Slowly multiplying,
Silently extending.

Your host unaware of your presence,
Indestructible, eternal.
So strong, yet so weak in the way you strike.
You attack the body, outwit the mind,
Filling your prey with anxiety and hopelessness....

A will to survive struggles it's way to the top,
Only to find you can't be beaten, any sense of hope withered mercilessly away.

You will prevail,
You will win.
You will take the person I love.

My memories are out of your reach,
I grasp those that make me smile, knowing they will never be far away.
Our connection burns strong in my heart,
I can feel it's heat.

This flame will burn forever,
Moments will dance in my mind.
For even though it will take you,
We will be entwined forever...

I will win.
