Water Rage
Horses and cattle are stranded
Dogs and cats abandoned
Homes and businesses are destroyed
As water levels rapidly rise
Families are stricken with panic
Many unaccounted for and missing
Dad is trapped on the shabby old shed
And mum is remembering when she wed
Grabbing photographs and treasures,
And fearing the worst
Water reaches the goal posts,
Motor vehicles are floating past.
Others are now mourning,
As their loved ones are confirmed dead.
The town is in ruins,
Lives are shattered
What did we do, to deserve this?
As rain continues to pelt
We ask, when will the sun shine?
As we’re praying that it’s time.
As the flood subsides
People are starting to rebuild their lives.
Repairs will be ongoing,
As the river rumbles on
And the damage is catastrophic.
No school for the children,
As mum and dad need their help.
But hope is on the horizon
Everyone is sending aid
Our town will resurrect,
Even better than first laid.
We may not have a home
But our family is safe and we’re certainly not alone.
