Taste is a memory and all memories
have taste
A cold winters day fizzes in my mouth, it’s sour and lingers in thought
But the warmth from the fire that I come home to at last
It fills me with the sensation of joy
It’s not a taste of heat like chillies but more of a full bodied flavour
A mixture of chocolate, caramel and orange, a mixture of love and awe
A heat wave came through town last year, that is a taste I remember
It’s like spicy Thai; it’s hot and dry, wishing for something to sip
Anything at all just to quench my thirst, I need something to drink
My favourite taste of all is something that I love and it happens all the time
When the rain falls down, and down, and down, flooding me in its wake
The wave of flavours hits me at first like a cool sip of lemonade, then when
That mellows out and settles in it’s like cold peppermint tea
But it’s spiced with ginger, lemon-grass and more
It lifts me up and gives me life, makes me fresh and fills all with glee
