Finalist in the 'Timeless Tales 2011' competition
A drowsy lullaby plays softly through the trees
With sweet smelling honey-suckle scented in the breeze
The light is turning slowly from daylight into dusk
And the world teeters slowly, sitting on the cusp
Crickets chirping softly in the still night air
And night birds flying loftily, they don’t have a care
Night is coming quickly, light is fading fast
But if you listen carefully, you can hear the day slip past
Listen…stay quiet…you can hear he night unfold
Listen…stay quiet…there’s a story to be told
Can you hear the birds a hunt, hear the crickets call?
Can you hear the wind blow, through leaves on trees so tall?
If you’re silent, if you’re still, you can see the night unfurl
This time between light and dark slips by in a whirl
The time when nothing’s bright or black but a funny kind of grey
Is the time that marks the start of night and the end of day
