On The Hummingbirds Wing

A light breeze stirs things, spirits that ride with the wind.
Butterflies, bees, leaves, dragonflies,
All take to the air with zeal,
You could almost hear them laughing, as the wind blew them on.
But something leaps, from a flower, to the sky
A patch of colour flickers, an eye cannot see it, but it’s there.
The colour flirts back, flitting from daffodil to iris,
Whispered, pure notes fill my ears.
Bright feathers, small wings, the bird leaps into the air.
A flowerpot hangs from the veranda post, the bird hovers to inspect it.
Bright small eyes peep cheekily around the edge,
Sparking with mischief over the edge of a pretty green wing.
The hummingbird sways as the breeze blows,
Then darts to the other side of a flowerpot and inspects me from there,
Looking for all the world like a giggling child playing a game,
Until it takes to the wind, Hummingbird flies away, wings flash in the sky.
