Veil Of Violence

I hide behind a mask,
It stops the ugly forces,
prepared to stop the assault,
love never seems to be the issue,
it's the hate that's seeping through,
a weather beaten hand holding out a tissue,
the body positioned to whisper 'I'm sorry',
again falling into the protective circle,
those are called your arms.
I used to look up into your eyes,
remembering your weren't really mine,
there was nothing keeping you there,
only the one thing you truely loved,
even then you didn't treat me right,
when did I ever see you?
only late at night, that stench on your breath,
your snarling voice we could still hear under the covers,
every twilight the last thing I heard,
was my quiet plead and china shattering,
in a stream of broken hearts.
