Peace At Last

Salt water burned my lungs with ferocious intensity
Waves battered my body at every angle
The last of the precious air bubbles escaped through my blue lips
My muscles spasm from the freezing cold
My ears felt like they would explode from the pressure
But it was all worth it
Because as I took my last breath
I saw my mother
Up in heaven
As I closed my eyes for the final time
I felt something I haven’t felt in a long time
Peace
