Up on the bare hill,
Silhouetted in the twilight,
It stands alone,
The old gnarled tree.
Blackened by fire,
Struck by lightning.
Once part of a great forest,
Now a lone figure on the hill.
Only a shadow of its former glory.
A guardian,
Watching over the world below.
