They passed door by door,
Their weapons not pointed at the floor,
For they are fighting for our freedom,
Some thought to be possessed by a demon,
They fought in field by field,
Not all holding a shield,
For the Australians are the ones united,
And Australia the country their horizon brightened,
So that is why we wear the poppy,
The people who fought would say wear it straight not floppy,
The poppy black and red,
And some of the soldiers wives left with an empty bed,
So now they are lying in a Gallipoli field,
Helpless and lonely without a shield,
So this is why we remember,
The people who fought on the 11th of November.
