To you I may seem like a happy being,
But deep down this is not what I am seeing,
The sun never shines, quite as bright,
And every day the shadows come to fright,
The days are hard, and I feel all alone,
Except when I see him, suddenly I’m home.
He’s been there for me through the heartache and pain,
He’s been beside me, keeping me sane.
The doctors come, the news isn’t great,
“Sorry,” they say, “Its too late.”
Tears begin to fall, but I must be strong,
Who will be there, when it all goes wrong?
The boys arrive and in their eyes I see,
The men of steel, they always seem to be.
They hold me close and tell me I’m so brave,
But in the end I’m cancer’s slave.
