A Fortune Found

I closed the shop door and off I fled,
To find my fortune at the gold bed,
I left my children, friends and wife,
To seek my fortune and change my life.
Life was dirty and the air stunk,
People were always fighting when they were drunk,
I panned for gold all day and night,
And all of a sudden I struck a beautiful sight.
I cashed in my gold, got my money and went,
Walked out through the goldfields past all the tents,
Hit the road-there were others-worse off than me,
Back home-shop open-everything as it should be.
