The rumour came round and said, "Go ahead"
Make your fortune before you'll be dead.
So he left with his brother as quick as a flash,
They travelled in a coach with a wad of cash.
Life was hazardous with fights everywhere,
But most of the troopers didn't even care.
Food was scarce and hard to get,
Weather was hot and sometimes wet.
We mined all day until we got the biggest shock,
All we'd ever found was hard worthless rock.
So we packed our bags and said goodbye,
Back to life on the farm at Gundagai.
