Today's the day I'm heading to the mine
As I leave, the weather is sunny and fine.
The ground is hard, rocky and tough
And the men are violent, hopeful and rough.
The three pound license was hard to buy
No licence-so the miners to the troops-they lie.
Being dragged away and then thrown in jail
No money, no food, no chance of bail.
Released from jail my claims given away,
No chance to make money so I won't stay.
Back on the road-a beaten track
Next time-better luck-I will be back.
