Paw-steps On Your Heart

I stood there watching you, as a tear ran down your face.
I wish I could let you know, that I'm in a better place.
And one day I will see you, up here, again with me.
We'll laugh and play and sing a song, our faces filled with glee.
I've left paw-steps on your heart, and there they will stay.
I've left memories in your mind, for each and everyday.
I know I have upset you, leaving you to cry.
But just to let you know, I'm always standing by.
My head rests on your shoulder, I know you cannot see.
But let me re-assure you, it's where it's meant to be.
My paw rests on your hand, on your heart and in your soul.
It's always going to be there, when your young and when you're old.
If you ever feel my presence, it's not just in your head.
I'm always there around you, especially on your bed.
I still watch you sleep, your peaceful mind escaping.
From all the pain I've caused you, I can feel your heart breaking.
I'm truly sorry my friend, but it was just meant to be.
But one day I will see you, and one day you'll see me.
