A feather from a bird and a distant scream,
A pool of blood is not as it seems,
A handful of sand and a gun without bullets,
A mouthful of poison filled to it's fullest.
A flea-ridden dog and a rope in a tree,
A boat in a lake just for you and me,
A trickle of water and a rain of blood,
A river of scarlet turning into a flood.
A dying horse and a bloodied towel,
A letter written of all things foul,
A crucified criminal and a witch at the stake,
A young woman's tears decidedly fake.
A city of ash in a world of fire,
A dirt-poor thief and a tongue-twisted liar,
A rush of blood from a writer in vain,
His rambling mind no longer in pain.
