Lest We Forget

As a fiery wind took over the sky,
Thousands of minds were seemingly wiped,
These men, of Australia, of New Zealand as well,
Said farewell to heaven and hello to hell,

The battle was lost before it began,
And they shot down, man by man,
Like Private John Simpson and all of his mates,
Even his donkey didn’t escape,

The present pretends that they already know,
Of the hardships these men had to undergo,
The torment and pain within their hearts,
Knowing this day could be their last,

It happened back then, in Gallipoli,
Where thousands of men died overseas,
Eight thousand, five hundred and eighty seven,
Were ANZAC souls who left for heaven.
