I am a flower in a great grass plain
Alone and lost, scared and small
The gun fires as loud as a canon
One soldier down but they can’t see me
I burn with hunger and thirst
But all I see is a blood stained city
My heart hungers for recognition
They don’t think I deserve a place among the people here
They never wanted me around at all
Except to calm their worries
I am not part of the puzzle
I am the extra piece with no meaning nor purpose
The hills and valleys perish to nothing but black ash
Eventually I stood amongst fields of sweeping silence
Joined by nothing but the colourless land
I stood motionless in the delicate breeze
After this there will be no more
I am the last soldier of the war.
